In English, we looked at some simple poem styles and now we are learning about literary devices, such as similes and metaphors. In Spanish, we are continuing our sports broadcaster project.

Today we had our final dance class, it was a lot of fun learning a new dance style. Tomorrow we get to go to the book fair and can bring cash to buy books and stationary. In English, we learnt about lantern poems and got to write our own. In Spanish, we are. starting a project where we will be sports broadcasters, this will allow us to practice using the presente progressivo (present progressive). In math, we are starting division and so we have been practicing our fact families (7x9=63, 9x7=63, 63÷9=7, 63÷7=9) to help us understand that division isn't so scary.

Grade 5 Student Leader Tours

Dear Grade 5 Families,

We will be hosting a Kindergarten/Grade 1 Open House on January 12, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm.  We would appreciate the support of our Grade 5 students who will be ambassadors and leaders for Dalhousie as they will provide tours for prospective families, highlighting what makes Dalhousie amazing.

Students would stay after school where they will be supervised by school staff and we will have pizza for them (plain cheese and pepperoni).  They would be asked to wear a white shirt and black pants during that time.   They would need to be picked up at 7pm from school.

Please indicate your permission to have them participate through this form.  This only needs to be filled out for students who have indicated an interest in participating as it is optional.  Deadline to respond is November 30, 2022.

Thank you for helping us spread the word about the great learning community we have at Dalhousie!

In English, we have been looking at Haikus and we wrote our own haikus about winter. In social we had to finish our research of 4 Canadian regions. We went on our field trip yesterday to the downtown library and got to listen to a keynotes speaker who had graduated from the Spanish bilingual program, we then got the opportunity to participate in some fun workshops. In gym, we continued learning our dance.

November 18th - 28th - Scholastic Book Fair

School Update - November 18

Ask your child about Sound Kreations and the new dance moves that they are learning!

Please ensure that you have read the email about the AHS declared outbreak at Dalhousie.  If you have any questions, please email dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca.

Thank you to those families who have paid their fees for swimming, Sound Kreations or field trips.  Fees can be paid through your MyCBE account.  Prompt payment is appreciated as any unpaid fees impacts the programming that the school can offer.

Our virtual book fair starts today and can be accessed through this link.  Students will have an in-person opportunity to purchase books as well either during the day on November 22, 23, 24 or in the evening from 5-8 on November 24.

A reminder that conferences are being held next week on November 24 & 25.  Please see the separate email that was sent for information on how to book.

As a reminder around traffic safety, there is no parking or entering the school parking lot at any time. Please also be respectful and mindful of the parking, no stopping and Hug & Go zones around the school.   The Hug & Go Zone is meant for a vehicle to be there for under a minute.  Your child should be able to exit the vehicle independently and have their backpack with them in order to use this area.  The Hug & Go Zone is not meant as a waiting zone for families to pick up their child after school by remaining in their vehicle.    We continue to receive complaints from our neighbors regarding families who park in front of their garage is blocking access as well as reports of near misses. Safety over convenience it is not just a phrase. It needs to be a mindset and continued action. The Calgary Parking Authority as well as the Calgary Police Service will be coming out for education and enforcement. Dalhousie School has no ability or authority to have any in fractions and accompanying fines waived.  Thank you for collectively being conscious about traffic safety for our students, your children and our families, you.
